These Town & Country homeowners wanted a backyard that was cleaner, more enjoyable, and better suited for spending time outside. The existing railroad-tie retaining wall had deteriorated, and the outdoor area needed an update that addressed both the structure of the property and how the homeowners used the backyard.
Instead of replacing only the wall, the project brought the retaining wall and new deck together as one coordinated backyard improvement.
Removing the Old Railroad-Tie Wall
The existing railroad ties were removed to make way for a new block retaining wall. The new wall provides a cleaner, more permanent solution for managing the change in grade while giving this part of the property a much more finished appearance.
With the grade properly supported, we could move on to improving how the homeowners accessed and enjoyed the backyard.
Adding a New Deck
A new wood deck and staircase were built to create a comfortable outdoor area directly off the home and a better connection to the yard below.
Coordinating the deck with the retaining wall allowed both improvements to work together instead of looking like separate additions.
New Block Retaining Wall Installed
The old railroad ties and deteriorated backyard have been replaced by a clean block retaining wall and new deck that make the property feel more organized, accessible, and ready to enjoy.
