Replacing Overgrown Planting Beds to Improve Front Yard Curb Appeal
Years of weed growth and aging planting beds had taken away from the home’s appearance. The landscape lacked definition, maintenance had become more difficult each season, and the front entrance no longer reflected the character of the property.
The homeowner wanted a low-maintenance front yard with cleaner planting beds, fresh mulch, defined landscape edging, and a design that would improve front yard curb appeal while reducing future maintenance.
With those goals in mind, we redesigned the entire front landscape before installation began.
Designing a Low-Maintenance Front Yard Landscape
The new landscape was planned to improve front yard curb appeal while making the property easier to maintain throughout the year. The planting beds were completely reshaped and outlined with Fond du Lac natural stone edging to create permanent definition and organize the landscape around the home’s existing features.
New shrubs and ornamental plantings were selected to complement the mature trees and architecture, while Dad Brown mulch installation provided rich contrast, helped retain moisture, and supports long-term weed control landscaping. A Hampton stone retaining wall was also added to organize the slight grade change beside the walkway and create a cleaner transition into the front entrance.
Once the design and materials were finalized, installation could begin.
Landscape Installation with Mulch Installation & Weed Control
The project began by removing the existing landscape, eliminating overgrown weeds, and preparing the planting beds for the new installation. Rather than covering old materials, the landscape was rebuilt with properly defined bed lines, fresh soil preparation, and new materials selected for long-term performance.
The installation included:
- Removing the existing landscape and weeds
- Reshaping the front planting beds
- Installing Fond du Lac natural stone edging
- Building a Hampton stone retaining wall
- Installing new shrubs and ornamental landscape plantings
- Completing Dad Brown mulch installation
- Finishing decorative stone around the retaining wall feature
By completing every phase together, the finished landscape looks cohesive, stays cleaner, and requires significantly less maintenance over time.
Natural Stone Edging That Defines the Landscape
Replacing worn, undefined planting beds with Fond du Lac natural stone edging immediately gave the landscape more structure. The stone creates permanent bed definition, keeps mulch contained, and separates lawn from planting areas for a cleaner finished appearance.
The Hampton retaining wall complements the stone edging by organizing the slight change in elevation near the walkway while adding visual interest that blends naturally into the overall landscape.
With installation complete, the front entrance became both more functional and far more inviting.
A Low-Maintenance Front Yard with Lasting Curb Appeal
The complete front yard renovation was finished in just one working day.
The new landscape now provides:
- Improved front yard curb appeal
- A low-maintenance front yard
- Fresh mulch installation throughout the planting beds
- Permanent natural stone edging
- New landscape plantings
- Cleaner, weed-free planting beds
- Better long-term weed control landscaping
- A retaining wall that adds both structure and visual appeal
The homeowner now has a front landscape that’s easier to maintain, free of overgrown weeds, and designed to complement the home’s architecture for years to come.
